Tane is the 2nd book from Patricia Ngaheu. It is the Male counterpart to Hine, which was released earlier this year.
I know nothing of the Maori culture, but I am always excited to learn about other cultures and their stories. I was drawn in from the very first page. Ngaheu is a master storyteller. It felt like an invitation to sit at the campfire with her to listen to her speak to her ancestors. It felt like an honour and a privilege.
Although the stories were dark, her prose is beautifully written and evokes a multitude of emotions.
The chapter heading illustrations are beautiful, and I loved that each story shared a lesson.
Everyone needs to read Ngaheu's work.
